16 years ago I found an abused, neglected female pitbull mix dog tied to a street post. She wasn’t the first stray dog I ever took in. But she was the most abused. She had been so traumatized in her short life that she had major fear aggression issues.
I wanted to save this girl but was concerned if I could. I had never had an animal who exhibited aggression towards everyone and everything.
Long story short, I consulted with a woman who claimed to be an expert on animal behavior as well as an active rescuer and advocate. She came to my house and met Stormy. Or came within 10 feet of her. Stormy lowered her head and gave her a deep chest growl.
This woman, told me that Stormy was a lost cause and too far gone to be rehabilitated. She was an expert after all.
The next day, I had braced myself for surrendering Stormy to the humane society. When I went downstairs to check on her and feed her, she approached me for the first time and licked my hand. I decided then that I would never listen to animal experts and just listen to the animals. They have no agenda.
Stormy passed last year
at the age of 16 years. 15 of them with me. She was surrounded by her buddies Taz and Ozzie. She was loved and because I didn’t know better she had a wonderful life.
This is very beautiful indeed. All my animals taught me all that I know. You just have to listen with your heart.
Beautiful story, thank you for sharing.
