Feeling Beachy

My Sis and I took our first overnight  beach trip in a couple of years. Ozzie got to come with us. We are lucky enough now to have a reliable pet sitting service and Cleo, our last foster failure is now more manageable and can be without us for a couple of days without going crazy.

The weather was perfect and we stayed at Manzanita which has special memories for both of us. I love it there. It’s quiet and not as commercial as some other beach towns. We stayed two nights which gave us enough time to just to relax but also explore some of the other towns nearby.

I planned a trip south from there down to Tillamook and then over to Cape Meares to see the lighthouse. We took our time driving down, taking time to stop and view the scenery, and explore some of the towns.

I kept my eye out for old churches, cemeteries and vintage trailers along the way.

Every time I visit the coast, I have a longing to live there. I wouldn’t even have to live right on the ocean but in one of the many estuaries or rivers that meander through the area.

June is such a lovely time of year to visit because the crowds are not as intense as later in the season and the weather is always mild and sometimes even a bit cool.

Ozzie had a wonderful time and enjoyed having a couple of days walk on the beach, visit other doggies and see new sights. He loved being the only dog and getting all the attention and snacks. He was a like a little kid who got exhausted but still didn’t want to go to sleep at night. He started to fall asleep sitting up and then slept like a baby.

His presence reminded me of the many beach trips I have taken with my others dogs in the past. Many birthdays have been spent walking with one dog or another and I just can’t imagine a better way to spend the day.DSC_2482 DSC_2481-001 DSC_2479 DSC_2471-001 DSC_2469-001 DSC_2464 DSC_2462 DSC_2458 DSC_2457 DSC_2454 DSC_2450-001 DSC_2445 DSC_2442 DSC_2426 DSC_0125-001 DSC_2425 DSC_0124-001 DSC_0118 DSC_0115 DSC_0114-001 DSC_0107 DSC_0106-001 DSC_0102-001 DSC_0096-001 DSC_0100 DSC_0093 DSC_0034-001 DSC_0032 DSC_0029 DSC_0027 DSC_0025-001 DSC_0020-001 DSC_0019-001 DSC_0018-001 DSC_0017 DSC_0015 DSC_0014-001 DSC_0013-001 DSC_0009-001 DSC_0007 DSC_0003

I Remember Mom

The Cuckoo's Nest

On Mother’s Day most other women my age are remembered by their human children. My dogs don’t know Mother’s Day from any others. They love me the same every day. So mostly on Mother’s day I remember my Mom and how I am so grateful to have the memory of someone who was a real human being. Modest, kind, thoughtful and always thinking of others.

She gave me the love of food made by hand and growing your own vegetables.  Her hands touched everything with care.

I just appreciate everything you taught me about taking the time to do things right. How to really clean a kitchen floor or to arrange a bundle of weeds into a stunning display. You could make any meal special or any day special with the way you remembered a favorite flower or color.  You put thought into what you made and into what you…
