My Sis and I took our first overnight beach trip in a couple of years. Ozzie got to come with us. We are lucky enough now to have a reliable pet sitting service and Cleo, our last foster failure is now more manageable and can be without us for a couple of days without going crazy.
The weather was perfect and we stayed at Manzanita which has special memories for both of us. I love it there. It’s quiet and not as commercial as some other beach towns. We stayed two nights which gave us enough time to just to relax but also explore some of the other towns nearby.
I planned a trip south from there down to Tillamook and then over to Cape Meares to see the lighthouse. We took our time driving down, taking time to stop and view the scenery, and explore some of the towns.
I kept my eye out for old churches, cemeteries and vintage trailers along the way.
Every time I visit the coast, I have a longing to live there. I wouldn’t even have to live right on the ocean but in one of the many estuaries or rivers that meander through the area.
June is such a lovely time of year to visit because the crowds are not as intense as later in the season and the weather is always mild and sometimes even a bit cool.
Ozzie had a wonderful time and enjoyed having a couple of days walk on the beach, visit other doggies and see new sights. He loved being the only dog and getting all the attention and snacks. He was a like a little kid who got exhausted but still didn’t want to go to sleep at night. He started to fall asleep sitting up and then slept like a baby.
His presence reminded me of the many beach trips I have taken with my others dogs in the past. Many birthdays have been spent walking with one dog or another and I just can’t imagine a better way to spend the day.
